Research Focus

Monolayer protected clusters are ultrasmall aggregates of atoms, typically ranging from a few to a few hundred atoms, with sizes below 2 nm. Over the years these materials have been gaining a significant amount of attention owing to it's unique properties which sets them apart from the bulk material. As a result of their ultrasmall size these have high surface-to-volume ratio making them promising for applications in catalysis, bioimaging, electronics, and sensing. The first two ISMPC conferences were organized by Hannu Häkkinen and were held in Jyväskylä, Finland in 2008 and 2011. The ISMPC series then began a world tour, with conferences held in Colorado, USA (2013), Japan (2015), Switzerland (2017), and China (2019). After a delay due to the COVID19 pandemic, ISMPC was resumed in 2024 which was held at Pennsylvania State University, USA.
